Well, Lies of P clearly looks like a copycat of Bloodborne, so it's not a surprise the artificial difficulty is present, alongside with pattern memorization, most likely they are going to justify the "corpse run" with the lies of Pinocchio (maybe when you die, you become a puppet, then after recovering your corpse you turn back to human, etc)
